What we heard

16 colleagues answered the questionnaire

Responses came from programme, management, M&E, finance and administration, procurement, ICT and design roles. Every day of the programme below is built on these answers.

12/16already use AI daily or weekly
10/16use a free personal account, not an organisation account
14/16name data privacy and confidentiality as a concern
15/16work in Microsoft 365 every day, 11 also in Google Workspace

Most requested training areas

Number of respondents, up to five choices each
Also chosen: research and fact-checking (6), M&E reporting (5), automating repetitive tasks (4), responsible AI use (4).

    Self-rated confidence

Average on a scale of 1 (not at all) to 5 (very confident)
The two lowest scores, shown in orange, get the most time in the programme: knowing what is safe to share, and working with data.
      The programme

Four days, each building on the last

Each day has two blocks of about 80 minutes with a break. One trainer leads each block and the other works with participants at their laptops. Participants bring their own documents: reports, concept notes, emails and spreadsheets they would anonymise for the exercise.

      1

      Safe and confident use

      Friday 30 October · 9:00 to 12:00
      Led by Ivica
      • How AI models work, and why they invent facts
      • What is safe to share: partner names, beneficiary data, internal documents, political content
      • Free personal accounts versus organisation accounts: what changes for your data
      • ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot side by side on one NDI task
      Led by Silvija
      • Structured prompting with the CREATE formula
      • Checking output for errors, invented sources and one-sided answers
      • Political neutrality: testing AI for bias on governance topics
      • Each participant picks three tasks from their own role
You leave withA one-page safe-use checklist for NDI work and three personal tasks to work on
Why: lowest confidence score (2.8) and the most named concern (14 of 16).
Practice at workUse AI on one of your three tasks with the checklist. Note the time it took and one thing that went wrong. Share it in the programme's Teams channel.

Why: writing and summarising are the top regular tasks (12 and 11 of 16) and among the top requested areas.

      AI literacy on record

Supports Article 4 of the EU AI Act

Since 2 February 2025, organisations that use AI systems in the EU must ensure a sufficient level of AI literacy among their staff. Certificates of completion and the before-and-after summary document this, which is useful when donors ask how AI is governed.

      Measured, not assumed

Same seven questions, before and after

On day 4 participants rate the same seven skills from the questionnaire. Management receives the comparison per skill.
